  6. UPGRADING FROM 4.0
  7. ------------------
  8. If you are a registered user, then your key will automatically
  9. work with the new software.  Nothing to buy, just download and run
  10. the install.
  11.  
  12. NT USERS - KNOWN PROBLEM
  13. ------------------------
  14. There is still a problem with NTFS compression.  If you're using NTFS
  15. compression, you will have to turn off compression on the directory 
  16. where ClipMate's data files are located.  This will be addressed
  17. shortly in a future maintenance release.  
  18.  
  19. WordPerfect Users
  20. -----------------
  21. See the WordPerfect Note below in the "Compatibility" section.
  22.  
  23. SOUND Notes: 
  24. ------------
  25. On some systems, installint the "Sound Effects" will 
  26. de-select your current sound scheme.  This is easily corrected by 
  27. going into your control panel, selecting SOUNDS, and re-selecting
  28. your favorite scheme.  While you're there, experiment with the
  29. various sounds available in ClipMate's "SOUNDS" directory.
  30.  
  31. Changes in 4.21 vs 4.20
  32. -----------------------
  33. 1) Wrap-Text option in the Magnify Window will now remember its state
  34.    from one session to the next.
  35. 2) Several changes to accomodate WordPerfect 7.1  See WORDPERFECT in
  36.    the "Compatibility" section below.
  37. 3) Streamlined event processing.
  38. 4) The "uninstall" program was missing from 4.0
  39. 5) Re-installation to a path other than c:\program files\clipmt40 would
  40.    fail to find the previous version. Now it should find it anywhere.

  42. Enhancements to v4.2
  43. --------------------
  44. 1) When Auto-Capture is disabled, and you're using the SysTray icon,
  45.    a red NO symbol (\) appears on the icon.
  46. 2) Glue from Picker Window usually glued items in the reverse order
  47.    from the order in which they were captured.  i.e. it glued top to 
  48.    bottom, no matter what you actually desired.
  49.    Now it looks to see the order in which you're selecting items, 
  50.    and will glue in the same "direction" (top to bottom, or bottom 
  51.    to top).
  52. 3) ClipMate will now aggressivly re-establish broken Clipboard connections.
  53.    (Other applications could cut-off the clipboad notification process
  54.    by improperly handling messages, or by crashing.  Now, ClipMate takes
  55.    preventative measures to ensure that it is first in line for all Clipboard
  56.    messages, regardless of load order.)
  57. 4) User Preferences dialog has another tab - "Advanced", which is
  58.    where some of less frequently used options now reside.
  59. 5) Adjustable PowerPaste Delay setting
  60. 6) When deleting from a "Safe" collection, you can be prompted for
  61.    confirmation.  See User Preferences dialog to set.
  62. 7) When deleting "all items", you are always prompted for confirmation.
  63. 8) "Application Profiles" menu option under Config.  
  64. 9) "Shut Down" option now availble from SysTray menu.
  65. 10) Changed some logic to more quickly recognize WordPerfect, Ami, Excel, and VB Data,
  66.     to solve some timing problems.
  67. 11) When viewing Application Profiles, the proper profile comes up automatically,
  68.     according to the originator of the currently selected clip.
  69. 12) New command-line option:  N
  70.     This causes ClipMate to startup with Auto-Capture disabled.  
  71.     Usage:  CLIPMT42.EXE N
  72. 13) All previous versions could "lose" screens if the video driver 
  73.     resized such that they were positioned off the edge.  Now there are
  74.     "reasonability" checks prior to displaying form in its previous position.
  75. 14) To further simplify finding the data files, the "DATA DIRECTORY" setting
  76.     is only used if the DATA directory is somewhere other than directly
  77.     beneath where the program is installed to.  
  78.     To get rid of unwanted/unneeded settings, the existing value will be 
  79.     eliminated during install time.  So if you have data somewhere
  80.     else, such as in \MYDATA\CLIPMATE, you'll need to re-set the DATA DIRECTORY
  81.     option in the User Preferences dialog.  You'll be prompted the first time in.

  86. Fixes in v4.2
  87. -------------
  88. 1) Data loss bug that occurred when moving items from one collection
  89.    to another, particularly items that had peviously been saved. (fixed)
  90.    (This was a long-time problem)
  91. 2) Error when loading empty collection : "No .BAK exists..." (Fixed)
  92. 3) "Index Out of Bounds" error in Picker or Main windows.  (Fixed)
  93. 4) PowerPaste would sometimes get confused, if you re-selected an item
  94.    while PowerPaste was active. (Fixed)
  95. 5) Metafile Problems - Clip Items containing Metafiles (Pictues) wouldn't
  96.    paste into applications.  (Fixed)
  97. 6) Phantom Icon problem is fixed yet again - for good this time.
  98.    Adjustable "Startup Delay" in User Preferences (Advanced) dialog
  99.    can delay as long as necessary to avoid the problem.  If you have
  100.    double-icons, increase the setting by a second or two.
  101. 7) Data loss when editing item in a collection that doesn't receive any
  102.    additional new items - it would "forget" to save the edited data. (Fixed)
  103. 8) "Can't Open Clipboard" problem in applications like Excel95. (Fixed)
  104. 9) Scroll bars in Magnify Window - often missing horizontal scroll bar
  105.    when viewing wide data. (Fixed)
  106. 10) Missing Cut/Copy/Paste/Undo menu in Magnify Window - (Restored).
  107. 11) Dialog boxes get chopped off at bottom on systems with 640x480 display.
  108.     Fixed.
  109. 12) "Application Name Unavailable" perpetually displayed in Clipboard 
  110.     Diagnostics Window, when ClipMate was actually first in line.  Now
  111.     it says "ClipMate".  (Fixed)
  112. 13) Dialog Boxes not readable on systems without Arial font.
  113.     Fixed - Arial font removed, replaced with MS Sans Serif in all dialogs.

  117. RE-INSTALLATION
  118. ---------------
  119. If you are installing this version over the top 
  120. of a previous build of ClipMate 4 (including beta)
  121. then here are some common questions:
  122. Q: Will my existing ClipMate 4 registration number
  123.    continue to work?
  124. A: YES - the registration is kept in CLIPMT40.INI,
  125.    which is preserved.
  126.    (provided that you HAVE previously registered
  127.    version 4)
  128.  
  129. Q: Will my data be overwritten or deleted?
  130. A: No - the install only replaces files with updated
  131.    ones - no deleting is performed.
  132.  
  133. Q: Should I uninstall the old one first?
  134. A: No.  And the installation program will clean out old entries in your
  135.    "install/remove programs" option in Control Panel.
  136.  
  137. Q: What about version 3.x registration numbers, will
  138.    they work?
  139. A: No - you need to upgrade to 4.x. 
  140.  
  141. Known Problems:
  142. ---------------
  143. There are several known problem that exist on some
  144. systems.  We are working on fixing them, but they are
  145. not severe enough to delay the launch.  Check our WWW
  146. page for updates.
  147.  
  148. > Help - Out Of Memory messages.
  149.   These are harmless errors that occur if you click
  150.   on a hypertext link, appearing in a pop-up help
  151.   window ("What's This" style help windows).  
  152.   We think that it's really a bug in the Help system,
  153.   and since the popup help does double-duty as part
  154.   of the regular help system, we don't really want
  155.   to remove the links, which are valuable when working
  156.   with the regular help system.   
  157. > Hotkey conflicts - The hotkeys (32-bit only) can
  158.   conflict with other applications, if the same keys
  159.   are used.  This usually affects F1..F12 or 
  160.   Shift+F1..Shift+F12.  Just turn them off, if they
  161.   cause trouble.
  162.   This has been known to affect WordPerfect, as well
  163.   as other word processors that make use of F-keys.
  164. > Stay On Top option doesn't work when iconified in 
  165.   non-windows95-gui systems.
  166. > Tab Behavior Problem - 16-bit only.
  167.   Tab in User Prefs dialog gets 
  168.   fouled once you click into the Application Profile 
  169.   settings.  This is easily worked-around by simply
  170.   closing the dialog, and re-opening it.

  172. Missing Features:
  173. -----------------
  174. There are several features from 3.1 that aren't currently 
  175. implemented, but will arrive in later builds:
  176.  > "sticky icon" - icon remembers position on screen (not yet
  177.    implemented)
  178.  > Control Menu (menu attached to icon) (not implemented)
  179.  Most of these are addressed in different ways when using
  180.  Windows95 / NT 4.0.
  181.  > DIB Bitmaps - ClipMate can't currently display them.  
  182.    We'll add this feature in a later release.

  184. Compatibility Notes:
  185. --------------------

  187.  Brian Quinon's Spell Program
  188.  ----------------------------
  189.  We are working with Brian on a permanent solution, but 
  190.  in the meantime, this is how you make ClipMate ignore
  191.  the Spell program, if you get errors in Spell:
  192.    add this line to your \windows_directory\clipmt40.ini file, 
  193.    at the end of the [CLIPMATE] section:
  194.        Ignore_MSGSRV32=1
  195.  
  196.  WordPerfect 
  197.  -----------
  198.  WordPerfect 7.1 does not behave properly when ClipMate's new 
  199.  "Persistent Clipboard Chain Monitoring" (a reliability feature)
  200.  is enabled.  You should disable this feature, found in the
  201.  "Advanced" tab of the "User Preferences" dialog.  Also, it seems
  202.  to prefer not to have Rich Text Format captured, so if you have
  203.  a pre-existing Application Profile from a previous release, 
  204.  you should change it so that only TEXT and "WordPerfect Data" are
  205.  selected.  See the "Application Profile" tab of the "User Preferences" 
  206.  dialog.  We assume, but have not verified that this holds true for
  207.  WP 6 as well.
